Did you know that the month of January is Get Organized Month? Me neither, although it does not surprise me that this is the month that was chosen for this. After the chaos of the holidays, all those new items we recieved for Christmas, often with no home, we need to take the time to sort through what we have, get rid of what we dont and find homes for everything.
This became part of Januarys celebrated ‘holidays’ in 2005 and was begun by a group of profesional organizers and consulters. In 1983 a group of women who worked as professional organizers gathered to share ideas and support each other, and everything grew from there. (For the full story click here) This lead to a yearly event that was begun in 1991 and was celebreated as Get Organized Week. Then in 2005 it became a month long celebration.
Every January I begin a new journal, I like to start fresh, and sometimes I get started in December doing my year at a glance, bill pages and other trackers, more often it is something that takes me through the month of January to complete as work and home is always so busy during the holidays, 2 kids and working in sales makes life hecktic to say the least. For me my organization is on paper, but we also work on organizing the house. My office at home (also partly storage for christmas and baby items) is in the middle of a refresh with re-organization, some things being tossed, some to thrift stores and other things, like baby clothes being handed down to a good friend who is having a baby boy any day now.
A few months ago we got new shelving for the kids playroom, everything should have a place, emphasis on should. however as many of you probably know, with kids things dont always get put back where they belong, or put away at all. It is time to go through thier toys and donate what they don’t play with any more, its on our list of organizational tasks to complete.
Do you make lists of what you need to reorganize, sort through and clean out? Is there a time of year you find you do this more than others? I bet its after the holidays, and maybe early fall when kids are back to school and holiday preparations are front of mind.
If you are celebrating Get Organized Month intentionally or like me being completely unaware that it was a thing, I wish you luck. And if you really need help, seek guidance from a professional, it is afterall what they do.
Keep a look out for ideas from me for home organization, Ive got a bunch of ideas and posts just waiting to be written.
Till next time Dear Reader, I wish you well and happy Journaling.
